Great tips! Im new to New York (about 3 weeks since leaving London) so Im totally lost in terms of good places to go not only bars/restaurants etc but also where to get a decent haricut/manicure etc all the essentials for a busy New Yorker! Im definately going to check out Spa Belles and even drag along my 'far too macho to have a manicure' boyfriend! Any suggestions on the meatpacking district? I heard it was the place to go at the weekend?

1. Fresh Flowers on the bedside table.

2. Necesities like an alarm clock, a radio, robes and slippers.

3. Books, especially ones about the area.

4. Candles for a welcoming glow in an unfamiliar setting.

5. A kettle for tea or coffee and a canister of cookies in case someone wakes up hungry in the middle of the night.

6. A flashlight for late night trips to the bathroom or to the main house (if you're lucky enough to have a guest house)
